What You Can and Cannot Put in a Dumpster

Generally accepted materials

Household junk, furniture, mattresses, carpet, wood, drywall, plaster, cabinetry, roofing materials, siding, flooring, non-freon appliances, scrap metal, cardboard, yard waste and clean concrete or dirt in dedicated loads are all standard roll-off material.

Never accepted

Paint, solvents, fuels, motor oil, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane tanks, wet paint cans, batteries, tires, refrigerant-containing appliances, fluorescent tubes, asbestos-containing material, medical waste and any liquid waste are prohibited. These require dedicated handling at a Palm Beach County household hazardous waste facility.

Grey areas worth a phone call

Treated lumber, railroad ties, large tree trunks, sod with heavy soil, and electronics are accepted in some loads and restricted in others depending on the receiving facility. One phone call before you load prevents a rejected load and a return trip fee.

Why separation matters

A single can of paint or one tire can reclassify an entire clean load, turning a lower recycling rate into a full mixed-waste rate. Keeping loads clean is the simplest way to control disposal cost.
